Reddit co-founder joins bid to buy TikTok and put it on blockchain

Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian has confirmed that he is among the bidders to buy TikTok's US operations, with the goal of putting the platform on the blockchain.

Ohanian's comments come after Reuters reported that he has joined Frank McCourt in the bid to buy TikTok. Ohanian, one of Silicon Valley's most prominent tech and social media figures, will serve as a strategic advisor to McCourt and Project Liberty.

"TikTok has revolutionized content creators, and the future of the platform needs to be built by creators," Ohanian added.

Ohanian's comments came after McCourt welcomed him to the bid. McCourt said Ohanian is a veteran of social media and his understanding of how the industry is evolving will be a key asset in his bid to take over TikTok in the US.

Project Liberty's vision for TikTok includes integrating blockchain technology, which would give users more control over their data and how it is used and shared.

McCourt added about the partnership: "Ohanian can help not only with authentication but also with socializing what we're doing. This is a project with very advanced technology, and so you need someone who can validate the technology and explain why it's important."

TikTok is owned by ByteDance, a Chinese technology company. The app was suspended from US app stores after the ban took effect. However, it was relisted by Apple and Google after intervention by former President Donald Trump.
